Marble Mountains
The Marble Mountains are a group of five marble and limestone hills located in the Ngu Hanh Son District, south of Da Nang city. The five mountains are named after the five elements: Kim (metal), Thuy (water), Moc (wood), Hoa (fire), and Tho (earth). They are located 8 kilometers from Da Nang and 20 kilometers from Hoi An.
This is not only a remarkable natural site, but also an important cultural center, where there are many pagodas and temples. Sheer porous cliffs are interspersed with caves and grottoes, in which Buddhist and Hindu shrines are located.
The mountains, according to legend, arose as a result of a battle between the gods.
The mountains have cave entrances and numerous tunnels, and it is possible to climb to the top of Mount Thuy. Several Buddhist shrines can also be found in the mountains, making them a popular tourist destination.
For a long time, marble was intensively mined in the mountains, which threatened the very existence of this natural monument. At the moment, stone mining in the Marble Mountains is prohibited by government decree.
Observation deck at the top of Mount Thuy
Currently, of the five mountains, only Mount Thuy Son is available for tourists to visit. She is the tallest of the entire group. It offers stunning panoramic views of the coast, the city and the countryside.
Linh Ung Pagoda
The pagoda at the top of Mount Thuy was built about 400 years ago.
